East York Probus COVID-19 Mitigation Policy

Preamble: East York Probus Club will follow all current Ontario government and City of Toronto COVID-19 protocols but is allowed to apply measures previously adopted by the government in an effort to safeguard the health of our members. When attending Probus activities, all members must abide by the rules set forth below.

Vaccine Status: Although members will not be asked to show proof of vaccination at an in-person activity, event or general meeting, it is the policy of East York Probus that only vaccinated members can register and attend. By registering, members are confirming that they are in compliance with this policy.

Masking: The decision to wear a mask in closed groups that meet in private homes and meeting rooms will be determined by a majority of the members of that group. If the facility where a meeting takes place requires that masks must be worn, then the group must follow the rules as stated by that venue.

Venues such as theaters, restaurants, clubs, galleries etc will follow the masking rules in effect at the time of the event. If, however, a venue posts a sign stating that masks are mandatory even after they are no longer required by the province, EYPC members must follow those rules. Members are, of course, free to wear a mask to any venue after the mandate has been lifted.

When we return to in-person general meetings at the church, mask wearing will be optional.

Mask wearing is recommended on bus trips while on the bus, irrespective of current provincial guidelines.

Waiver Form: In order to participate in an in-person EYPC event, all members must have submitted a signed waiver form. See the home page of the website for details on how to do this.

COVID-19 Self Checklist: Event reminders will contain a COVID-19 Self Checklist that participants must review to determine whether or not they should attend an event from a health perspective. Each member must take personal responsibility for assessing the risk associated with attending any activity or event before they sign up. Members should always stay home if they are sick.

In-Person vs Zoom Meetings: Allowing groups to meet in person does not mean that these groups must switch from Zoom to in-person. It is up to the members of closed groups to decide whether or not the group will meet in person.

Venues: It is the sole responsibility of convenors of open groups (such as lunch, dinner, jazz, theater etc) to decide when they feel comfortable scheduling in person activities and events at venues. This also applies to convenors of special events.

This policy will remain in effect for the foreseeable future. The Management Committee will regularly review the content to ensure it best serves the members.

This policy was revised by the Management Committee on September 12, 2022.
